Interview with Deva Maitri
How and when were you introduced to Pulsation?
In 1997 I was in Poona and decided to do a five day Pulsation group, because I was attracted to working with body expression and release. This group was for me an experience of a tremendous emotional, physical and energetic release. I remember moments of great body expansion. I was very impressed by all of this and decided to learn more, so I read books by Wilhelm Reich and Alexander Lowen. My enthusiasm increased and I was particularly interested in de-armoring work, so in 2002 I decided to participate in a Pulsation Training. I finally realized that I had found what I was looking for. Working with the body has always been my big interest. I have done many kinds of sports, and tai chi and yoga, but Pulsation is the most powerful body work I’ve ever experienced.
What made you fall in love with the work?
During my Training I realized that my body was becoming more able to relax. Muscular tensions around the diaphragm softened, a new meditative quietness became deeper. Because my blocks were both on the surface and deeper inside, I had to work hard. For many years after completing the Training I continued my personal individual work with Pulsation. My confidence grew as my life evolved and changed. It became easier to face my fears, and my body and mind were not so conditioned by them anymore. Especially my body was lighter and free, and more open to enjoy life.
What do you most enjoy about Pulsation?
To be in touch with my body and my vitality is the greatest joy. I practice several Pulsation techniques daily in order to stay rooted. It helps my self-confidence and makes my choices clear. I get strength and pleasure from feeling grounded. Another aspect which I appreciate in Pulsation is the connection with meditation. To be rooted in my body is the first step to be closer to my self, to my inner space.
What is it about Pulsation that works for your clients?
Even if people practice Pulsation just for one day, what they appreciate about it is the chance to release from stress, and to relax themselves. They are often surprised and impressed to discover how through their body they hold old memories which come to the surface. They get to know what’s under the surface, in their cells, and experience the great energy which gets freed after practicing for some days. Finally they get to know themselves and their own truth.
Why are you doing this work, and what do you hope to share with your clients?
After having been an assistant in groups and trainings for several years, I felt it was time to start leading my own groups. I was moved by the gratitude that I felt towards this work, and from comprehension that I have something to share with other people. I have received so much that now I want to share with others.
I like sharing, and I create a climate of trust were people can let go and open themselves. I love for search, and the courage of going through different emotions, and becoming stronger and able to also contain these emotions. All this is a present which gives you the chance to live an intense life.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned from doing this work?
It is certainly trust in life, a feeling which is still continuing to grow. And also to be curious to go on exploring - I’m still surprised to discover in myself a great potential which I didn’t know I possessed! Pulsation is a very fascinating experience of exploring a feeling which takes you deeper and deeper inside yourself, to discover new parts of your personality and of your essence.
What other methods do you use together with Pulsation and how do your clients benefit from the combination?
Meditation techniques are very good tools to integrate Pulsation work. They support all the released energy to find space and settle down as a new inner energy source. I use relaxation techniques to help people to get in touch with their own resources, and with their own positive qualities. The combination of Pulsation and meditation makes the work rooted in the experience of life.
Is there anything else you want to say before we finish?
I feel very honored and lucky to be part of the Pulsation tribe around the world!
Thanks a lot to Aneesha and to Osho’s world!
